Carolyn Preston, 82, passed away on January 23, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in McQuady, Kentucky on May 25, 1942, to the late Charlie and Doshie (Smith) Decker.
Carolyn was a member of Hancock County Christian Church where she loved to sing in the choir and play guitar. She sang in the bands the “Country Pioneers” and “Carolyn and the Girls”, where she traveled to churches singing gospel music.
Carolyn adored her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known to many as “mom” and her children were blessed to have shared her with so many people that loved her. She will be remembered for her cooking and her beautiful smile.
Surviving are her children, Karen Zuckschwerdt, Steve Preston, Wayne Preston (Kelli Aud), Anita Batie, Marita Hendershot (Ronnie Shartzer) and Chad Preston; sisters, Sondra Richards, Patty Dunn and Sherri Patterson; a brother, Joe Decker and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Estill “Buck” Preston in 2016; a son Mark Preston in 2002, her parents and stepmother, Stella Decker-Sims and siblings, Ruth Smith, Lillian Cotton, Gracie Obenchain, Billy, Harold, Jimmy and Danny Decker.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM CST, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Brother Roger Jarboe will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Greenwood Cemetery, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
