Bernadine Alvey

Tell City, Indiana - Mary Bernadine (Froehlich) Alvey, 85, of Tell City, died October 10, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family. Bernadine was born in Tell City on November 17, 1928 to the late Edward and Ethel (Vaughn) Froehlich. She married Ralph E Alvey on September 11, 1948. Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her parents, her brothers William and Bernard, and a great grandchild Kieran. Bernadine graduated from Tell City High School in 1947 and worked at GE for 33 years where she was a union steward for the Electrical Union. She was a woman of strong faith and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she served on the parish council, and was past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella. Bernadine was a wonderful cook and best known for her decorated cakes especially her ding dong cake. Word games, especially Boggle and crossword puzzles were one of her favorite forms of entertainment. Going to listen to her husband play music was another highlight. She loved going to her children and grandchildren's sporting and academic events and was so proud of the many successes of her family. Family was important to her and she instilled that love of family to her children. Having fourteen children meant that something was always happening and Bernadine was always willing to go. She is survived by her eight sons and daughters-in law, Terry & Linda Alvey, Byron & Lucy Alvey, Ralph & Marilyn Alvey, David & Patsy Alvey, Bill & Wendy Alvey, Paul & Ginger Alvey, Chris & Carol Alvey, Kevin & Diane Alvey; six daughters and sons-in-law, Mona & G. Joe Goffinet, Beth & Ronald James, Susan & Tom Hughes, Pat & Jim Huffman, Julie & Davies Bellamy, and Jackie & Jerry Witvoet. Survivors also include her two brothers Don Froehlich and Larry Froehlich, four sisters Dorothy Collins, Anita White, Jenny White, and Delores Hahus, Bernadine was the proud grandmother to Kim Conner, Brandi Bonham, Terri Lin Cornelius, Connie Young, Brian Goffinet, Gretchen Armstrong, Chad James, Robby James, Jami Smith, Niki Brown, Keith James, Rachel Alvey, Rebecca Hensley, Renee Braley, Lucas Alvey, Angie Dubree, Stephanie Thomas, Jennifer Cecil, Holly Paauwe, Eric Alvey, Sara Rogier, Tara Sabelhaus, Kristen Skates , Danica Williams, Andrew Huffman, Jesse Huffman, Samuel Huffman, Trisha Inabnit, Mariah Alvey, Blake Alvey, April Alvey, Holly Clark, Amanda Alvey, Devika Bellamy, Alexa Bellamy, Suzanne Tyree, Joshua Alvey, Mary Grace Alvey, Caleb McDaniel, Chase McDaniel, Devin Alvey, Matthew Alvey and 57 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday, where there will be a D of I memorial service at 7:00 PM, and from 8:00 until 9:30 AM Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church bell fund or towards a memorial at Sunset Park.
