Tell City, Indiana –
Bary V. Carter, 77, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
He was born at home, on Long Avenue in Cannelton on June 17, 1947, the only child of Victor F., Jr. and Anna L. (Polk) Carter.
Bary was a 1965 graduate of Cannelton High School and furthered his education at Vincennes University where he received an associate’s degree.
He was a United States Navy veteran having served his country for four years during the Vietnam War.
Bary was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cannelton where he and Sharon Boyer were united in marriage on March 23, 1973. They enjoyed 51 years together. Bary was an example of a true family man. He was always actively involved in his families’ lives; he was their biggest supporter and cheerleader.
In 2013 he retired as a purchasing manager from Meggitt, after 25 years of employment. He enjoyed playing with and spoiling all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bary enjoyed birdwatching, working crossword puzzles, NASCAR, was an avid fan of U.K sports and after a long day, he liked to enjoy a drink of Maker’s Mark and Lay’s potato chips. He had a wonderful sense of adventure and loved to share his myriads of stories.
His wife, Sharon, survives him, along with his children; Diane Alvey (Kevin), Chris Carter (Rhonda) and Dan Carter (Aislin); grandchildren, Devin Hofmann (Becca), Matthew Alvey, Tyler Carter (Bridget), Chelsea Wiseman (Blaine), Kendall Zabel (Matt), Kaden Carter and Joel Carter and great grandchildren, Raelynn, Ollie, Clay, Jase, Halle and Vivian.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM CDT on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery where there will be military rites. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday and from 8:00 AM until service time on Saturday. Pastor Jack Arney will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cannelton.
