Austin Craig

Tell City, Indiana Austin E. Craig, 81, of Tell City passed away Thursday morning at VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, Indiana. Austin was born in Philpot, Kentucky on April 6, 1927, son of the late Ira E. Craig and Mary Alice Taylor Craig. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Ralph W., Robert and Wilbur Craig. Austin was united in marriage in Kentucky on July 7, 1948 to the former Doris Clark, who passed away January 1, 2006. Austin retired in 1987 from General Electric in Tell City where he worked in shipping/receiving. He had been also employed at the Tell City Chair Company. A very patriotic man, he served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2939 and St. Paul Catholic Church. A life-long Perry County farmer, Austin enjoyed fishing and gardening,. He is survived by four daughters, Judith Ann Craig, Tell City, Indiana Debra Kay Northerner, Tell City, Indiana Doris Lynn Davis, Tell City, Indiana Elizabeth Elaine Sabelhaus, Herman, Missouri One brother, Charles Craig, Tell City, Indiana One sister, Ella Mae Logsdon, Owensboro, Kentucky Eight grandchildren, Dennis, Gary and Jimmy Northerner, Sherry Colter, Robert Horn, Carrie Sites, Becky Lewis and Josh Sabelhaus . There are 17 great grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City, Indiana with burial in Walker Cemetery, Branchville, Indiana where the VFW Post # 2939 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Friday and 12:00 - 2:00 PM Saturday at Huber Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.
