Lamar, Indiana Allen R. Kramer, 70, of Lamar passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand, Indiana. Allen was born in Gibson County, Indiana on September 8, 1939, son of the late Lester Kramer and Mildred Romershausen Kramer. He was a 1957 graduate of Mackey High School and graduated from Oakland City College in 1960. He later received his master's degree in mathematics from Indiana State University. Allen began his teaching career with the Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation in 1960. He taught mathematics and science. He retired from Tell City thirty-seven years later in 1997. During his teaching career he played a vital part in developing the educational achievements of hundreds of students, earning the ""Realizing the Dream"" award in 1996 from Independent Colleges of Indiana. He also received the Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation ""Teacher of the Year"" award in 1992. After retirement, he enjoyed tutoring students at his home. Allen was an avid supporter of the Spencer County Community Alliance, St. Peter's United Church of Christ and the Spencer County Humane Society. He loved animals and always made a home for any stray that would wander into his yard. His ability to attract hundreds of purple martins was well known. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and had a deep appreciation of nature. Allen was united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Tell City on November 1, 1969 to the former Sandra Hicks, who survives. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. Dwayne Kramer, Fairfield, Illinois, a brother-in-law, Dane Hicks, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City, Indiana with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Tell City. Rev. Chip Jahn will officiate. Visitation is from 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and from 9:00 until service time on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spencer County Humane Society, the Visiting Nurse Association or St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
