Alice Marie (Schurtter) Ellis, 85, of Boonville, passed and joined her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2025, at the age of 85. Alice leaves her family, friends and neighbors with many memories of her kindness, gentle and loving demeanor and selfless heart.
Alice was born in Cannelton, Indiana on August 6, 1939, daughter of the late Edwin and Wenonah (Hafele) Schurtter. She graduated from Cannelton High School in 1957 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1961 from Evansville College. It was there that she met the love of her life, C. Robert Ellis, who she would marry on December 31, 1961at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cannelton. Together, they shared 63 years of deep love and a myriad of experiences.
Alice earned her master’s in education from Indiana University and became a teacher. She loved teaching and her success in teaching could be attributed to her own love of learning. Alice had a curiosity and desire to learn that never stopped.
Alice enjoyed being in nature, bird watching, traveling and taking walks. She loved history, working puzzles and was an avid reader. Alice was known for her creativity and artistic nature, and she was always sewing, knitting or making a craft project. Those who knew her well loved her inquisitive nature and wit.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron Sorority (eventually Kappa Kappa Kappa) at Evansville College and a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Tri Kappa and P.E.O. Professional and Service Organizations. In retirement, she was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Warrick County Hospital and was a member of the Women’s Guild at St. John’s Untied Church of Christ in Boonville. With her husband, she was a faithful attendee at Folsomville United Methodist Church.
Surviving is her husband, C. Robert “Bob” Ellis, PhD of Boonville and their children, Martin Lynn Ellis, Portland, OR, Dwight Bradley Ellis, Boonville and Karen Elizabeth Ellis, DDS, Speedway.
Preceding her in death were twin sons, Charles Edwin and Robert Galen in infancy; a brother, Paul Schurtter and a sister, Maytha Southard.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST on Monday, March 10, 2025, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Cannelton. Darrell Resler will officiate. Burial will follow in New Cliff Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at the church.
Huber Funeral Home is handling Alice’s arrangements.
