Alene Dauby

May 25, 1941 — April 2, 2023

Tell City, Indiana - Alene Marie Dauby, 81, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, surrounded by the love of family. She was born in Bristow, Indiana, to the late Alvin and Bernice (Flamion) Lasher. She married Joseph L. "Joe" Dauby on June 18, 1960, at St. John's Catholic Church. They were married for over 45 years until his passing in 2006. Alene graduated from Bristow High School in 1959 and was her class valedictorian. She was a beautician for many years, having worked for Lasher's Beauty Shop before working from home, since 1963, at Alene's Beauty Shop. Most of her clients were family and friends who over the years became part of the busy, hectic Dauby household. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a 55-year member of a local Christian Family Movement (CFM) Study Club. Her faith and love of God were central tenets in how she lived her life. It was her faith and devotion that helped her family cope through difficult times. It was the simple pleasures in life that brought Alene the most joy. She loved family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren, be it the traditional family Christmas or the impromptu invite of having everyone over for some homemade ice cream on the back patio; a recipe she perfected! Being outdoors truly made her happy. She loved to travel and always looked forward to her favorite weekend of the year, where she and her daughters vacationed in Brown County, a 25-year tradition they loved and cherished so much. She loved playing cards and enjoyed her card club afternoons with her friends. It was Alene's pleasant, sweet, welcoming personality that family, friends, and anyone fortunate to have known her, will forever remember most about her. She was as beautiful a woman on the inside, that she was on the outside. She was a loving, nurturing grandmother that her grandkids instantly felt the moment they walked through grandma's door and into her arms. She so loved her daughters-in-law and son-in-law, who so loved her in return. Everyone has warm, wonderful memories of visiting her, be it nieces and nephews, friends of her children, and many others. Alene was a woman of incredible grace and kindness, in a world that desperately needs more of both. She leaves a lasting legacy for all who loved her on how to live life. She is survived by her children, Kevin Dauby, Jim Dauby (Chris), Neil Dauby (Janet), Cindy Dauby and Amy Ramsey (Brad); grandchildren, Courtney May (Jason), Dr. Hunter Dauby (Sydney), Jordan Homa (Matt), Tyler Dauby (Harper), Jackson Ramsey and Jillian Ramsey; great grandchildren, Ezra and Isla May, Lincoln and Miles Dauby and Theodore Dauby, and sister, Phyllis Bender (John). Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and sisters, Ruth Ann Gentry and Josephine "Jo Ella" Evrard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.
