Al Henning

Tell City, Indiana Al Henning, 78, went to be with our Lord on August 1, 2019, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born in Perry County, Indiana on April 27, 1941 to the late Herman L. and Bonnie Pearl (Weedman) Henning. Also preceding him in death was his son, Rob Henning, sisters, Violet Pepper, Catherine "Mae" Dauby, Frieda Taylor, Lucille Robbins and brothers, Herman "Bud" and Emmett Henning. Al was united in marriage on July 16, 1960 to Urma Bowman. After retiring from General Electric, he worked at Tell City High School, where he took pride in maintaining the school grounds. Al would always stay after school to ensure that all children made it to their busses. He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, was a former President of the Tell City Band Boosters and was a Union Steward Representative while working at GE. Al was known as a jack of all trades, as he could fix anything. He enjoyed woodworking, Tell City Marksmen sports, Cincinnati Reds Baseball and IU Basketball. Most of all, Al loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Urma Henning, Tell City; his children, Robin Neighbors (Gordy), Lincoln City and Rita Young (Mick), Cannelton and daughter- in- law, Angela Henning Lambeck (Rick), Tell City; a sister Gladys Garvin, Tell City; a brother, Homer Henning (Sandy), Twin Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren, Kassi Harpenau (Kyle), Tyler Henning (Faith), Morgan Neighbors (Sean Clark), Travis Fischer (Kate) and Lauren Zellers (Brandon); two step grandchildren, Nicki Fentress (Scott) and Michael Young and eight great grandchildren, Aurora, Louis and Eleanora Harpenau, Robert Rhett , Wyatt and Nellie Henning and Grace Fischer and Kaiser Zellers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT Saturday August 3, 2019 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Steve Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow in New Cliff Cemetery, Cannelton. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00-10:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, Cannelton.
