Tell City, Indiana - Donald L. "Fred" Merritt, 35, passed away Monday October 22, 2012, near Cannelton. He was born in Tell City January 7, 1977 son of Marvin Pierrard and Roberta (Merritt) Sabelhaus. He was preceded in death by grandmother Joyce Mitchell, grandfathers, Donald Joseph Pierrard and Frank Sabelhaus, Sr. A member of Union Local #795, Fred worked for Zeke Ransom Excavating. He enjoyed motorcycles, arrowhead hunting, fishing, hunting, playing drums and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Bobbie Sabelhaus, Grandview; father, Marvin Pierrard, Tell City; step father, Frank Sabelhaus, Tell City; sister, Rachel Pierrard, Cannelton; brothers, David Merritt, Hawesville, Frank Sabelhaus, Jr., Tell City and Justin Sabelhaus, Terre Haute; grandmothers, Linda and Harold Ball, Cannelton and Jean Pierrard, Tell City, Jerry and Darlene Merritt, Cannelton; grandfather, Vernon Mitchell, Grandview and fiance', Sasha Schaefer, Tell City. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and from 8:30 AM until service time on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
