Tell City, Indiana
Darrell L. Harper, 75, passed away May 7, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.
He was born in Tell City on January 26, 1949, son of Clyde Harper and Ruth (Burns) Harper Adamson.
Darrell was a 1967 graduate of Cannelton High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had worked nearly 30 years as a lineman for the Tell Electric Department.
Darrell served as Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post #2939 and was currently in charge of its funeral memorial detail. He was a member of American Legion Post #213, Moose Lodge 1424 and AE-AEO Association; a group of veterans from WWII until the present, that get together annually.
Darrell enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, having family cookouts, camping at their place near Patoka Lake or spending the weekend on the river at Rocky Point. He also loved to watch his grandchildren in their sporting events and activities.
Surviving is his wife, Lena (Dixon); children, Chad Harper (Lori), Tell City, Kimberly Bailey, Tell City and Machele Staehler, New Palestine; grandchildren, Kassye Harper, Roseanna Richards, Tyler Bailey (Bre), Niccole Bailey and Ava Staehler; great grandchildren, Eyla and Alice Bailey; sisters, Rose Moore (Denny), Florida, Brenda Pohl, Cannelton, Betty Hawkins (Dale), Evansville, Daisy James, Tell City, Wanda Daley, Peoria, IL and a brother, Joe Harper (Brenda), Cannelton.
Darrell is proceeded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Joe Bailey; sisters, Thelma Terry, Marjorie Nix, Carolyn Carter, Nancy Bradshaw, Linda Simpson; and brothers, Charles “Bud”, Melvin, Paul and Clyde “Eddie” Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Sheila Rearden will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2:00-7:00 PM and Friday 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
